Admissions Overview

Prep Admissions - Cheltenham College Preparatory SchoolWelcome to Cheltenham College Preparatory School, or Cheltenham Prep as we are fondly known, where we offer first class all round boarding and day co-education to boys and girls aged from 2 3/4 to 13.

Kingfishers Pre-Prep welcomes girls and boys into our Nursery from the term in which they turn 3.  Pupils stay with us through to Year 8 (aged 13), when they move on to our Senior School or another school of their choice.

In Year 6, all Cheltenham Prep pupils sit the Cheltenham College 11+ Entrance Examinations.  Not to be mistaken for the 11+ assessments for Gloucestershire Grammar schools, our examinations come in the form of a familiarisation day “Entrance Day” and Academic Assessments (the ISEB Pre-Test).  As well as being attainment tests, these are also used as a basis to confirm places at Cheltenham College entry into Year 9 at the age of 13, as well as to advise the most suitable choice of school for each pupil at the end of Year 8.

The Prep school’s community is made up of 400 children, the majority of whom are day pupils.  Boarding is offered from Year 3 - around 40 boys and girls are Full Boarders in The Prep’s Boarding House, which is located upstairs in the main school building. Flexi Boarding is extremely popular with children staying for one or two nights each week, offering flexibility for families life and a fun sleepover culture for everyone in the Boarding House to enjoy.

Cheltenham Prep enrols pupils into all Year groups throughout the academic year, subject to places being available.  As part of their application to join the school, prospective pupils are invited to join us for a Taster Day so that they can experience life at Cheltenham Prep for themselves.  Boarders are also invited for a Sleepover.  Taster Days and Sleepovers are very popular and Cheltenham Prep pupils take great pleasure in welcoming visiting boys and girls to the school that they love, and sharing their day together.

We welcome you to come and see us, to explore all that is on offer for yourself. We would be delighted to arrange a tour of The Prep for you and your family, so that you can meet our Headmaster, Mr Jonathan Whybrow, our pupils and staff.  We strongly recommend visiting on a weekday during term time so that you can see our vibrant community in action, and gain a real taste for life here at Cheltenham Prep.

For more information, to arrange a visit, join us for an Open Morning, book a Taster Day, or for us to assist you in any other way, please email or call us. We are here to help you discover the best choice of school for your son, your daughter, and indeed your family.

We very much look forward to meeting you!
