Welcome to Middle School.
Middle School children begin and end the school day with their Class Tutor. However, lessons are taught by subject specialists who teach in purpose-built classrooms; this means Year 5 children quickly become accustomed to moving around the school.
As part of our gradual preparation for senior education, Year 5 and Year 6 continue to develop independent learning strategies. We encourage all children to organise themselves through increasingly self-directed use of their Middle School Planners and to participate in one or two extra-curricular activities each week. Some Middle School pupils choose to play polo, others prefer to embark upon adventures with the Cheltenham Prep Scout Troop, and many like to cook, paint and play sport after school. Indeed, all members of Middle School are encouraged to make the most of the academic, pastoral and social opportunities that make up a typical day at The Prep.
Saturday mornings become compulsory in Year 5. Children are often involved in Saturday sporting fixtures; parents are invited to support and spectate matches, both home and away. At the end of a fixture, children are always signed out by a member of staff. Teams travelling to other schools to participate in tournaments or games are provided with a packed lunch.
Middle School also aims to prepare pupils for transfer to other schools: both Year 5 and Year 6 children experience Taster Days at Cheltenham College and specific support may be given to children moving away to other schools.
