Kingfishers is the Pre-Prep department of Cheltenham Prep, taking children from the term in which they turn 3 through to age 7. At age 3, children start in our Pre-school in the Kingfishers Nursery, then progress through Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. All our children enjoy the school grounds and fields and often use these areas to support their topic work.

In Nursery and Reception classes, the children enjoy learning through play. We encourage them to make choices about their learning and we like to follow their interests as they develop. We appreciate that every child is individual and therefore offer considerable flexibility within our classes. Through small classes and our 1:8 teaching ratios, all children are able to complete activities in small groups and have high levels of support from staff.
Kingfishers boys and girls all receive a broad curriculum to ensure they have all the necessary skills to build upon at a later stage. The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework is followed in our Nursery and Reception classes, and The National Curriculum replaces this in Years 1 and 2.
From the age of 3, all children enjoy Music, French, Games and PE lessons with subject specialist teachers. From Reception onwards, all children have weekly swimming lessons. Weekly ICT lessons in the ICT suite form part of the Year 1 and 2 timetable, and a wide variety of after school activities are available to Year 1 and 2 children, with skiing club being available to children from Year 2 upwards. Reception and Nursery children have the opportunity to attend lunchtime activities, Year 1 and Year 2 can also attend sporting and creative clubs on Saturday mornings.
All Kingfishers children have lessons in our outdoor woodland Forest School, a designated area that staff and children have developed within the grounds.  Here they can explore the curriculum in a safe and stimulating outdoor environment.
